Overview

Biography

I was the first George L. Switzer Professor of Forestry in the Department of Forestry, College of Forest Resources at Mississippi State University. I am also a SAF Certified Forester/Forest Certification Auditor and SAF Fellow. I received a Ph.D. in Forest Resources in 1992, a M.S. degree in Forest Resources and Operations Research in 1984, and a B.A. degree in Political Science from Villanova University. My expertise, as a natural resource economist, is specializing in issues relating to multiple-use forest management, wildlife economics, forest certification, urban and community forestry, and human dimensions. I am also certified to the ISO 9001:2008 standard for Quality Management Systems for Lead Auditors. I’ve served as a socio-economic auditor on 122 currently Preferred by Nature FM/COC forest management evaluations and innumerable Chain-of Custody audits. In 2015, I was named an Alumnus of the Year in Forestry at Penn State University. I received the 2019 CFR Service Award, 2021 CFR Teaching Award, and 2021 CFR Advising Award from the College of Forest Resources at Mississippi State University. I am currently the President of The Penn State University Forest Resources Alumni Group Board of Directors, and President of the Professional Arborist Association of Mississippi Board of Directors.
